日本で34年ぶりに開催される世界デザイン会議合わせて、東京の丸の内にあるデザインギャラリーGOOD DESIGN Marunouchiにて、「人新世のデザイン」という展覧会が開催されます。また出展者等によるトークが連日ございます。会期は６日間と短いですがお時間ございましたら是非ご高覧ください。
26日の15:00-16:30には本展キュレーターである藤崎圭一郎氏と土田貴宏氏と三名によるトークに出演いたします。
「産業社会や資本主義の進展は、地球規模の大きな環境変化をもたらし、「人新世」という地質学的に新たな時代に入ったと言われるようになりました。デザインは生産と消費、技術と人間、社会と個人などつなぐ手段として、その重要性を広く認められるようになりました。では、デザインはこの「人新世」を生きのびるために何ができるでしょうか。経済的な格差はますます拡大し、政治的な分断が広がり、気候変動や生物多様性を減衰などによって環境が激変し、破滅のシナリオが免れないような状況が迫るなか、デザインの役割も変わっていくはずです。」

Life Cycles: The Materials of Contemporary Design

９月からニューヨーク近代美術館(MoMA)で開催される展覧会「Life Cycles: The Materials of Contemporary Design」に Anima が展示されます。
展示されるのは同館に所蔵された作品で、所蔵品となって以来２度目の展示機会となります。約１年ほどの会期となっておりますので、是非この機会にご高覧下さい。
'Any act of good design must also be an act of empathy, respect, and responsibility toward all living organisms and ecosystems––as well as future generations. By translating scientific, technological, and social revolutions into objects and behaviors, design can be an agent of positive change and play a crucial part in restoring the fragile ties between humans and the rest of nature. Life Cycles: The Materials of Contemporary Design explores the regenerative power of design as it shifts its focus towards a more collaborative rapport with the natural world.'

At the coalface! - Design in a post-carbon age

ベルギーのオルニュという都市にある複合文化施設 CID Grand Hornu にて開催される展覧会 'At the Coalface!' に Anima 3点が展示されます。
この都市は19世紀から20世紀にかけて石炭業で栄えたことで「ワロン地方の主要な鉱山遺跡群」の一部として世界遺産に登録されており、展示会場のデザインセンターは当時炭鉱複合施設であった建物です。機会がございましたら是非ご高覧ください。
'The pieces we have brought together provide both a damning insight and reasons for hope: design as a means of deconstructing the humankind/nature hierarchies of the modern era, putting us back into the humus, as a part of nature itself.
At the coalface! is a conversation that spans many disciplines, combining memories and techniques of the past with the need for solutions to the emergency we face today. It sees coal become a resource for generating multi-voiced and sustainable narratives.'

'Natural materials are assigned new functions (producing plastic from algae) and recycling or transforming waste into high-quality material (making fabrics and furniture from pine needles). Some projects focus on energy sources that are less harsh on the environment, or on raising consumer awareness. This exhibition showcases experiments and products that are already widely used.'

会場ではAnimaシリーズより、大小異なる15点が展示されております。器それぞれの裏には収益が少しでも危機に苦しんでいる人々の助けになればとの思いを込めて'FOR UKRAINE 2022'と記しました。
収益はウクライナ危機に関する人道支援のために寄付されます。渋谷近辺にお立ち寄りの際には是非ご高覧ください。

'The Refrigerator Illusion exhibition started with an attempt to use the refrigerator – an everyday essential and a part of everyone’s kitchen – as a lens for approaching culinary and lifestyle culture practices. It attempts to share the various issues and the stories that exist on the other side of the convenience and efficiency that the refrigerator brings us.'

本巡回展では「最優秀作品などの受賞作品のほか、２次審査で最後まで選考に残った優秀作品など、世界各地の技法や材料を活かした表現豊かな工芸作品」37点が展示されております。光栄なことに引き続き作品展示の機会を頂けました。

国際工芸アワードとやま2020
作品展示 at 富山県美術館

「国際工芸アワードとやま2020」に作品が入選いたしました。世界62の国と地域から応募された709点の作品から選出された約120点の入選作品による展覧会が4月4日まで 富山県美術館 にて開催されます。
展示されているのは一昨年に制作をしていたもので、食器のコレクションと同様に残菜と漆を素材とした壺の形体をした作品です。どの程度まで大きなものを作ることができるか試みました。
本来であれば昨年に企画されていた公募展でしたが、新型コロナウイルスの影響により開催が１年延期となりました。富山に行かれる際には是非ご高覧ください。

10月18日より開催されている Designart Tokyo 2019にて新作「Anima - Life Vessel」を出展致しております。
以前より食料廃棄物を素材として食器を制作をしていますが、今回の機会に合わせてより大きなものの制作を試みました。
古来壺や甕はいのちの糧である水や食料の保存や運搬に用いられ、必需品として人々の暮らしを支えてきました。そして時には経典などの供物や遺骨を納める祈りの器として、また花器としても束の間のいのちを活けることに用いられてきました。
その形体をいのちの象徴として捉え、食料廃棄物から成る容れ物を制作しました。いのちの在り方や尊さ、いのちの時間に思いを巡らせる、いのちを顧みる魂の器です。

4月9日より開催されるミラノデザインウィークにて住友林業株式会社との協働プロジェクトを発表いたします。
「REEVALUATING WOOD」と題して、住友林業筑波研究所が長年に渡り研究し蓄積してきたデータによって証明された木材の効用を、卓上のパーティションと天蓋で構成されたインスタレーションを通してご紹介いたします。
本展示においてクリエイティブディレクション、展示空間、プロダクト、グラフィックのデザインをいたしました。

ベルリンで開催されていた食にまつわる様々な事柄をテーマとする展覧会 "Food Revolution 5.0 - Design for the Society of Tomorrow" がスイスのウィンタートゥールにある美術館Gewerbemuseum Winterthurに巡回します。Food Waste WareとAnimaも引き続き展示作品に選ばれています。機会がございましたら是非ご高覧くださいませ。
"Food is a symbol of life itself, giving us an identity, a sense of home, and many of the cultural and social rules we live by. Whereas cooking food was human beings’ first cultural act and thus marked the beginning of civilization and craftsmanship, in today’s affluent society food is rapidly evolving into a creative means of self-expression and a substitute for religion. At the same time, the constant growth of the world’s population, along with climate change, resource scarcity, hunger and poverty are placing increasing demands on human health and hygiene, making it urgently necessary to rethink our methods of food production, packaging, distribution, consumption and disposal.
'Food Revolution 5.0' grapples with some of the most pressing issues of the 21st century: What will the future of human nutrition look like? Will we be eating meat, growing vegetables in indoor farms or feasting on algae proteins and mealworms? New models of thinking and practice in relation to the food of tomorrow are devised in our speculative laboratory. International designers present their concepts and visions for designing the global nutrition system. Suggestions for best practice are found alongside hypothetical projects illustrating possible future scenarios."

10月22日からMaterial ConneXion Tokyo主催の企画展MATERIAL DESIGN EXHIBITION 2018にて、住友林業株式会社さまとの協働プロジェクトを披露いたします。
"今年のテーマは「CLUE」。デザイナーが素材と向き合い、その特性をいかした使い方を模索することで様々なアイデアが生まれます。デザイナーの
視点で広げられた素材の可能性は、素材の用途を広げる「糸口」となるだけでなく、見る人にとっても自身が抱えるプロジェクトの課題を解決する「糸口」や、自身のクリエイティビティーの可能性を広げる「手がかり」となるのではないかと考えます。今回の企画展が、相互にとっての「CLUE＝糸口、手がかり」が生まれる場となればと思います。"
会期初期の1週間ほどは六本木にあるAXISギャラリーにて展示され、その後は同じ建物の地下一階にあるMaterial ConneXion Tokyoのショールームでの展示となります。AXISギャラリーでの展示期間中にお越しいただけますと広々としたスペースにてご覧いただけますので、ご都合がよろしければそちらをお勧めいたします。

ドイツ、ベルリンのKunstgewerbemuseum(Museum of Decorative Arts / ベルリン工芸美術館)で開催する食にまつわる様々な事柄をテーマとする展覧会 "Food Revolution 5.0 - Design for the Society of Tomorrow"にてFood Waste WareとAnimaが展示されます。AnimaはFood Waste Wareプロジェクトを漆を用いながら発展させたもので今展覧会で初の披露となります。食糧廃棄の現状について思いを巡らすことを促すため残菜を素材に制作をした食器が展示されます。
"How will we eat in the future? And what will we eat, given the dwindling resources of our growth-driven society? Globalized food production is having a decisive impact on climate change and the choices we make about how and what to eat help to shape the world’s food system. Eating is no longer a private matter, but a highly significant political act.
The Kunstgewerbemuseum will become an artistic and scientific laboratory to showcase new conceptual and practical models for the future of food and living. "Common Good" はアジア太平洋地域の国々で活動する新世代のデザイナーによる社会的、倫理的または環境的なデザインプロジェクトを一堂に集める展覧会です。天然資源の枯渇、人口の増大、文化的遺産の継承などの現代の社会が抱える諸問題に取り組む作品が展示されています。

カナダのバンクーバーでPastaとRRRが展示されています。
場所は今年の10月にオープンしたばかりのLeisure Centerというデパートで、80年ほど前に製紙会社によって建てられた建物が改修されて新たにBALENCIAGAやLOEWE、COMME DES GARCONSなどのファッションブランドを扱うお店となりました。
そのようなブランド品を扱う一方で、未来の'Luxury'とはどういったものかを問いかけるスペースも設けられており、その中のSustainabilityがテーマのエリアで作品を展示していただいています。
もしバンクーバーに行かれることがございましたら、お店自体も面白そうですので是非足をお運びください。

"マテリアル実験やクリエイションのプロセスにフォーカスしたプロジェクト「Experimental Creations」はDESIGNART 2017期間中に表参道に新しくオープンする荒川技研工業のショールーム”TIERS“ 1階にて若手デザイナーによる作品を発表します。「Experimental Creations」は2013年に開始したプロジェクトで、過去に東京とミラノで7回展示を行っており、今回で8回目の展示となります。今年のミラノサローネで発表した実験マテリアルを、今回新たにプロダクトに展開した4作品を含む、9組のデザイナーによる作品を展示。自然素材や食品などを生かした新しいマテリアル、錆や木のテクスチャー、塗装や3Dプリントの活用などマテリアルとプロセスに於けるデザイナーの実験・探求・創造を発表します。"

During Milan Design Week 2017, Kosuke is taking part in an exhibition, EXPERiMENTAL CREAT!ONS, with a collection of his new works, GREEN SOLID COLLECTION which consists of some material-experiment projects including Piney Pasta and RRR.

GREEN SOLID COLLECTION
'Green Solid Collection' consists of several different material-experiment projects.
Especially focusing on the ones rooted in Japanese culture, I have been revisiting plant-based materials and the techniques of processing them in search for alternative use of them. I, for example, refer to an old composite used for setting hairstyle and a glue made from rice, which some carpenters used for even constructing a house.
The ‘Green’ in the title implies not only that the materials we play with are all derived from plants but also that they are ecological. Nowadays, when making something tough, pliable or waterproof, synthetic resin-based materials can be the first choice, but they are not often good for the environment. However, even though each composites in this collection is comprised of nothing but plant-based materials, which are probably too familiar to be rediscovered, it achieves the properties which could be regarded as unachievable without using materials containing synthetic resins.
The collection is a result of my continuous curiosity into natural materials from my previous project Agar Plasticity, which explores a potential usefulness of agar derived from red algae as an alternative to synthetic plastics.
This is another research for finding ecological ways of making our life better and healthier.

Kosuke is showing his new work Agar Plasticity project, developed as AMAM, as one of the 4 prototype winners of Lexus Design Award 2016 during Milan Design Week.
The Lexus Design Award 2016 is the 4th round of the annual international design competition targeting up-and-coming creators from around the world whose work contributes to shaping a better future.
The award is a unique opportunity for four of the selected finalists to work with globally recognized designers as mentor, with their design prototypes exhibited at Milan Design Week, one of the largest design events in the world.
The Grand Prix winner is annouced on 11th of April.

Kosuke is participating an exhibition, The Voice of Things, with Parcelled, his new work created for this exhibition.
The Voice of Things is a celebratory exhibition of Platform 18's activity in the Design Products department of the Royal College of Art and the group of talented designers that it has nurtured. As the platform completes its third and final year, graduates from across the three years are called to work on a common brief, which is below, for this exhibition curated by the platform tutors Sarah Van Gameren and Philippe Malouin.

"This brief is about description and translation. We ask you to find someone who can describe a functional product to you. Who you choose or how you communicate is up to you as long as there is no seeing, smelling, tasting or touching involved. You are now asked to reproduce this object."

Visitors will have opportunity to view both the originals and the each designers' interpretations, which will be presented side by side.
The exhibition will take place during London Design Festival at the Brompton Design District.

This exhibition is a collaboration between RCA and Christie’s aimed to represent the variety of disciplines and approaches within the school and opens at Christie's Gallery on King Street in London.
The exhibition includes a range of more than 40 works and projects selected out of the current RCA Show 2013.
